#nothere

The refugee crisis has been a part of the political discourse all around the world. Especially, the conflict in Syria and its impacts on Syrian people have become a major component on these discussions. People are forced to leave their homes and loved ones, yet are not welcome almost anywhere as well. We wanted to say something about this issue, and collaborated under the series of art projects under the name of #nothere.

An on-site, pop-up installation was a part of these series of works. We pulled hundreds of pairs of shoes through the Capitol Park in Augusta, Maine, and then made an installation on the steps of the Maine State House. Each pair of shoes represents a lost life of a refugee while trying to reach to a safe haven. The installation was video documented, and later become a part of an exhibition called #nothere.
